Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) enjoys the status of being the first Open University in Asia. The university is headquartered at Islamabad and has a huge network of regional centers covering not only the whole country but the entire Middle East too.

AIOU is a Distance Education institution, offering multi-disciplinary education from basic to doctoral level programs.
Presently, wide-ranging programmes at the following levels of education are provided by the AIOU.

The university has 36 regional campuses and centers in various parts of the country for coordinating and facilitating decentralized system of education of the university.
The university is to soon add four more campuses in Punjab province.
